Savandurga HillsThe august Savandurga Hills are situated 60 kms from the west of Bangalore and makes for a wonderful tourist excursion for tourists visiting Bangalore. The hills form a part of the Deccan plateau and placed at an altitude of 1226 m above the sea level. Made of laterites, peninsular gneiss, granites and basic dykes, the Savandurga hills are one of the largest monolith hills in India. The hills boast of housing a variety of flora and fauna. Surrounded by dry deciduous forests, the hills vaunt 178 species of shrubs and trees. Savandurga hills are also home to various endangered fauna species like Sloth bears, Leopards, Yellow-throated Bulbuls etc. Savandurga hills comprise of mainly two hills - namely Karigudda, the black hill and Billigudda, the white hill. At the base of the hills, there exist two temples, the Savandi Veerabhadreshwara Swamy temple and Narasimha Swamy temple. The temples are highly revered and pull many devotees throughout the year. Savandurga hills are most liked by the rock climbers, adventurers, cave explorers and certainly the pilgrims who climb the hills after offering due prayers at the temples.
